About experiments at AILab

We rely on information retrieval tools (almost) every day to deliver information to our computer desktop. Moreover, we rely on our tools delivering accurate information, information that will be useful for our information search, and delivering it the instant we request it. However, our retrieval tools, e.g. search engines, struggle greatly with interpreting our information needs when we make a search. How can we expect search engines to return a perfect result set when we only provide on average 2-3 query words per search?

The experiments at the Flinders AILab investigate how improvements to the graphical user interface of the search engine, can increase the two-way communication channel between retrieval tool and the user (searcher).
